The main draw of The Passing will be the crossover that’ll occur between the survivors from the first Left 4 Dead and the new survivors in Left 4 Dead 2. But on top of that, The Passing also brings a number of other new items and gameplay modes with it as well. One is the new “Mutations” system, which Valve describes as a “series of weekly game mode events” that include modes like “Versus Reality” and “Chainsaw Massacre” — the latter giving all players chainsaws with infinite gasoline. Valve has 20 different Mutation modes planned.

Other new features include a new co-operative challenge mode, support for infected bots in Versus mode, a new golf club melee weapon, new M-60 machine gun, and a new “uncommon common” infected class…that has a little something to do with the L4D1/L4D2 crossover.
